Synergism Stretch is a concept we are bringing in to our range of treatments to compliment how our patients move.
In order to move and function optimally, without pain and without placing undue stress on the tissues of our body we need a few basic components
- Joints having full range of motion
- Muscle control and strength to control this movement
- Soft tissue mobility to allow the joint the ability to achieve full movement
Due to how we move or sit on a day basis results in our body adapting to what we are doing. If we are sitting too much, or doing repetitive actions, certain muscles will get overused and shorten and the unused muscles will weaken and lengthen.
This imbalance creates stress on the joints and soft tissue which can lead to strains, muscle spasm or joint pain. Correcting these imbalances can take some time. In our thinking of exercise, we too often focus on only cardiovascular conditioning and muscle strengthening. We have started to incorporate the idea about how important core control and strength is in our programmes.
But what about flexibility?
Stretching is often only done as a quick warm up or cool down as part of our exercise. It is uncomfortable and because we don’t see benefits straight away, we tend to neglect this aspect of exercise. However, stretching helps the joint move through its full range, which also means the muscle strength is activated through the whole range. Stretching does not only improve flexibility, but can also improve your muscle exercise and promote good joint health.
With all this in mind, we developed Synergism Stretch. You will work 1 on 1 with a trainer to assess and stretch all the tight muscle groups in your body. The process is both active and passive and we only focus on flexibility during our session. Synergism Stretch can be useful for general wellbeing patients or for social to high level athletes – it will benefit all. Your 1 on 1 stretch class will vary between 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on what we need to stretch and get moving. Your trainer will also advise on a home routine and incorporate it into your other cardio and strengthening program.
